Official Google Voice app already approved?

by Justin Horn on Sep 28th, 2010 @ 12:41 pm

TechCrunch:

The App Store review office at 1 Infinite Loop has officially frozen over: we’ve gotten word that the official Google Voice application is on its way to the iPhone in the next few weeks. In fact, we’ve heard from a source close to Google that it’s already been approved — Google just needs to revamp the application to work with the iPhone 4 and iOS’s multitasking capabilities.

You remember the shit storm surrounding the official and third party Google Voice app rejections, with the FCC questioning all the players; Apple, AT&T, and Google. It seemed like all hope was lost…that was until Apple recently changed the app store rules and the third party GV apps started to appear in the app store again. Since then we’ve all been waiting to see when/if the official Google Voice app would be approved, and now it looks like it has!

What’s this weird button when viewing camera roll on iOS 4.2?

by Justin Horn on Sep 17th, 2010 @ 10:13 pm

UPDATE According to Grady Haynes and Mark Gurman this is a buggy AirPlay for showing photos on Apple TV. Looking at it now, I guess I should have thought of that, but hey, I’m fighting a cold.

You see that radio looking icon in the top right? Not sure what this is, but it doesn’t show up all the time. I’ve only seen it appear on 2 occasions out of several time looking at the camera roll. When you tap the icon it dims the background and brings up 2 buttons, iPhone and Cancel. Tapping either button does nothing.

I’m hoping this could be an unfinished feature for building photo galleries directly on the iPhone, without the need to download the camera and build them on a Mac or PC. Apple did finally add the ability to create playlist on the iPhone, so it doesn’t seem that far fetched.  What do you think?

iOS 4.2 custom text tone, not so custom

by Justin Horn on Sep 17th, 2010 @ 3:35 am

9to5Mac found a new feature in iOS 4.2 beta 1 that allows you to set a custom text tone per contact, but unfortunately just like the default text tone, the selection is limited to the built in sounds.

iOS 4.2 beta 1 printing on iPhone 4 walkthrough [Video]

by Justin Horn on Sep 15th, 2010 @ 5:20 pm

RELATED POST Hack to get AirPrint back in OS X 10.6.5

UPDATE If you want to see 3 more pictures of my girlfriend (pictured in this walkthrough) from an old 3GS launch article click here, she’s the one in the When Will Apple tshirt of course.

A walkthrough of printing from iOS devices, which Apple has named AirPrint.

View a photo and tap the bottom left arrow icon to bring up the action menu.

Tap select printer to search the network for available printers.

Currently my HP Photosmart plus isn’t directly compatible, but using the new Snow Leopard sharing feature it was able to find it. If I turn sharing off on my MacBook, the printer then disappears showing “No Printers Found”.

After selecting the printer, just tap print and you’re done.

The finish product! Yes, that photo paper is old and I need to dust of my printer.

UPDATE I guess the photo paper wasn’t that bad, just put it in on the wrong side and that’s why all the ink rubbed off on my hand. Ooops!

No Nike+ heart rate monitor support in iOS 4.2 beta 1

by Justin Horn on Sep 15th, 2010 @ 4:04 pm

Unfortunately it looks like heart rate monitor support might be on hold till next years iOS 5 release and not in iOS 4.2 as I predicted. There is still about 8 weeks left in the beta cycle, but if a feature like this isn’t in beta 1, it’s probably not going to be a part of iOS 4.2.
