It’s just the Beatles

by Justin Horn on Nov 16th, 2010 @ 11:05 am

That’s all folks. Is it cool? Yes. Was it over hyped? Kind of. I guess all they did was put a note on their website, but “a day we’ll never forget”…I don’t think so.

Apple PR:

Apple Corps, EMI and Apple® today announced that the Beatles, the most influential and beloved rock band in music history, are now available for the first time on the iTunes Store® (www.itunes.com). Starting today, the group’s 13 legendary remastered studio albums with iTunes LPs, the two-volume “Past Masters” compilation and the classic “Red” and “Blue” collections are available for purchase and download on iTunes® worldwide as either albums or individual songs. Fans can also get a special digital “Beatles Box Set” featuring the “Live at the Washington Coliseum, 1964” concert film, a worldwide iTunes exclusive which captures the Beatles’ very first US concert.

For the 3 of you mega fans that don’t already own all their albums, you can now get them on iTunes.

Hack to get AirPrint back in OS X 10.6.5

by Justin Horn on Nov 11th, 2010 @ 12:53 am

Steven Troughton-Smith:

The files you need are:

/usr/libexec/cups/filter/urftopdf
/usr/share/cups/mime/apple.convs
/usr/share/cups/mime/apple.types
If you migrate those from a 10.6.5 prerelease build (there seem to be many floating around torrent sites and file sharing sites – build 10H542 works; naturally I can’t link you to the files themselves, sorry!) to your machine you’re just one step away from having AirPrint working.

The final key thing is you have to remove and re-add your printer in the Print & Fax preferences pane. Once you do that (and share your printer in the Sharing preferences pane) it should show up on any iOS devices that support AirPrint.

Still don’t understand why Apple would remove this, but at least there is a work around…if you can get your hands on the beta files.

Google Instant now working on iOS devices, you just have to turn it on (Updated)

by Justin Horn on Nov 4th, 2010 @ 3:33 pm

UPDATE It’s official, on the Google blog.

Started seeing reports on Twitter (first from 9to5Mac) of Google Instant working for some iOS devices. I tried it and had no luck at first. I started my search via the Safari google search, but even on the google page it wasn’t doing instant. I then went to the google home page and found the missing piece of the puzzle, I had to turn it on.

Verizon iPhone to go on pre-sale November 9th? Probably not.

by Justin Horn on Nov 3rd, 2010 @ 11:43 pm

TUAW is reporting that the Verizon iPhone may be available for pre-sale orders on November 9th. I know I’ve doubted all the rumors so far, but after Verizon started selling the iPad I’ve become more open minded to the idea. Still though, this doesn’t seem very Apple like. I wouldn’t imagine Apple announcing a new CDMA iPhone, especially a Verizon iPhone, without having a big press event.

Remember also that all the most recent, more concrete, rumors have stated that the “vPhone” would be shipping early next year. I highly doubt Apple would allow Verizon to pre-sale the new phone so far in the future. If it’s going to happen, I believe Apple will have a big press event sometime in January to announce the phone and its release day. Any pre-sales would be, at most, 2 weeks before the product is available.

TUAW later updated the post stating that this is the same day the Motorola Droid Pro is set for release, that’s what I’m putting my money on.

Control iPhone volume in multitasking bar in iOS 4.2

by Justin Horn on Nov 2nd, 2010 @ 2:12 pm

Not sure why you would use this over the hardware volume controls, but it’s there.  To get to it you double tap to bring up the multitasking bar, then swipe over to the left menu audio controls, then swipe once again to get the volume controls.
