WWDC in less than 72 hours, let’s talk polls!

With WWDC right around the corner this is the perfect time to take a look at our polls and see how they stack up against the most likely release dates. Chances are the release dates for the following 3 polls will be announced Monday during the WWDC 2009 keynote. I hope you got your votes locked in and ready to go!

when will 3rd generation iPhone be released? (view poll)
Prize: 3rd gen iPhone

The votes on the 3rd gen are split down the middle between June and July…big surprise I know. I was expecting based on last year’s release to see the votes skewed towards July, but turns out June actually has a few more votes at the time of this post. Lets dig a bit deeper to see how the votes breakdown in these two months.

June
Two days stand out this month, the 12th and 15th. I understand the reasoning for the 12th as it’s WWDC time and the last two iPhones were also released on Friday, but it just seems too rushed. Being Apple’s flagship product, they’ll want to give potential buyers more than 4 days notice to build up as much anticipation as possible. This delayed release will ensure the long lines Apple is known for. The 15th is a Monday and I just don’t see that happening, although a new iPhone would be a nice cure all for a case of the Mondays.

July
The clear stand out in July is the 17th, which has more votes than any other day on the poll. This date fits the past time line perfectly and was rumored to be the release date (from a site without any rumor history). The 10th and 11th come in with about half the votes of the 17th. I guess people picked the 11th because that was the release date from last year, but the fact that Apple has released the past 2 iPhone on a Friday my money would be on a Friday this time around as well. I’m still sticking with my July 10th pick even though the polls are pointing to the 17th. If not the 10th I would have to say the only other date that really makes sense to me is the 17th, but I’ve been wrong before (a lot).

when will iPhone 3.0 firmware be released? (view poll)
Prize: $50 iTunes card

The clear winner here is June with more than 3 times the votes of the next closest month July. I’m little surprised to see the chart like this. I would have guessed more people assumed that iPhone 3.0 would come out along with the next generation iPhone which would most likely happen in July. I guess people either felt like there wasn’t a 3rd gen coming or the 3rd gen would be coming sooner than last year. Either way it worked out because it’s looking more and more likely that 3.0 will break tradition and come out before the 3rd gen iPhone. The release of iTunes 8.2 earlier this week makes a 3.0 release as early Monday, after the keynote, a strong possibility. Lets take a closer look.

June
The 12th has stolen the show in June. I can understand why people picked this date as it coincides nicely with some who believe the 3rd gen iPhone would be coming sooner than last year, but I just don’t see that happening. If Apple is going to release 3.0 at WWDC separate from a 3rd gen iPhone I feel that it would fall on the 8th which has the second most votes for June.

July
As expected July has the most votes on the 10th and 17th, but not as many as I expected.

when will snow leopard be released? (view poll)
Prize: Copy of Snow Leopard

This is our longest running poll to date with rumors of a release as early as January of this year, to delays pointing towards the end of the year, and everything in between. At last year’s WWDC Apple announced Snow Leopard would be ready “in about a year”…which is now. The leader in the poll is June by far and with the latest rumors saying Snow Leopard is actually on or ahead of schedule it’s possible we might get a release this month.  The hot date on the poll is the 9th, but I honestly don’t think we will get Snow leopard until July at the earliest.
