After watching this preview we believe the the 2.x iPhone firmware line has come to at end at 2.2.1 and next iPhone firmware release will be 3.0 this summer. I believe it will be June 23, a Tuesday, it seems like everything new comes out on a Tuesday (new Apps, etc.)…just a guess, of course!
