iPhone 5 screen vs iPhone 4: Really close up

by Justin Horn on Sep 25th, 2012 @ 2:43 pm

Really cool stuff here by Bryan Jones:

However, looking at higher magnification is where you can really see the difference in images.  It turns out that the pixels in the iPhone 5 are *precisely* the same size as the iPhone 4 pixels, but the iPhone 5 pixels have better color saturation with more contrast, seen particularly in the blue pixels.  I did not calculate the difference in color saturation between the two iPhones, but it is pretty clear to the eye which is which.  Apple claims 44% increase in color saturation and from these images, I believe them.

In the normal image you can still see the quality of the color. I can’t really see the pixels being closer to the screen though.  If you have trouble seeing the difference in the color saturation from the normal pic, taking a look at the microscopic, straight on one clears up any doubts as to which screen is better.

iPhone 5 ship dates pushed back to 2 weeks 1 hour after going on pre-sale

by Justin Horn on Sep 14th, 2012 @ 4:08 am

UPDATE 4:40 AM EST Hearing reports of people having luck still ordering direct from carriers. Good luck!

This has to be a new record right!?!

I heard reports of this, but I was still seeing the immediate ship date.  I opened a Google Chrome incognito browser and check again and saw the 2 weeks that was being reported. So I guess I had some kind of special session open that was showing me the other date, but who knows if that would have actually worked. Luckily for me I already placed my order!

UPDATE No, tried ordering for a friend thorugh my session, but still showing 2 weeks on the final order.

I can only imagine how the lines are going to be at the stores on the 21st for this very disappointing iPhone update.

Ordering iPhone 5: How to change the shipping address

by Justin Horn on Sep 14th, 2012 @ 3:54 am

I’m going to be in NYC on iPhone 5 release day, so I wanted to change the shipping address to a friend’s office in Manhattan. Problem was when I went to checkout from the Apple store, I couldn’t change the shipping address! So I just ordered it and then starting searching around Twitter for help. Apparently, you can change the address after the order has finished processing. See the simple steps below.

UPDATE Please note #2 below, this will not work until the order is processed, try it in the morning.

1) Just place your order with the locked in billing address.

2) Then after it finishes processing (whenever that is, you’ll probably get an email) just log into your Apple Store account and go to your recent orders.

3) Click “View / Edit Order Details” and then “Edit” under the Ship To address.

4) Change shipping address… (I haven’t actually gotten this far, so I’ll update when I try tomorrow, but hopefully it just works)

UPDATE It works! Also, just FYI. I still don’t have an order processed email. It still says processing, but I do have a cancel order button now.
