iOS 4 runs really, really slow on the iPhone 3G

This is kind of a joke, but kind of not. I’ve had more than one person tell me about issues with iOS 4 on a 3G. One person I see a couple times a week keeps showing me / letting me know about it. I was going to tell him to upgrade to an iPhone 4, but…well you know.

Apple has put up the new page on their website for the bumper refund / free case program: http://www.apple.com/iphone/case-program/

Don’t have a case yet
Basically if you don’t have a case, you’ll need to download the free case app [iTunes].

Bought one already, with credit card
You should see a refund in the next couple days.

Bought one already, with cash or gift card
You’ll need to head over to the Apple store with your receipt.

White iPhone delayed until “later this year”

Woah, Apple is really off it’s game this year.

Apple PR:

White models of Apple’s new iPhone® 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected, and as a result they will not be available until later this year. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected.

First, the white iPhone 4 not being available on launch day, delayed until late July. Then the antenna issue being mocked in the mainstream press. Next having to do an out of the ordinary press conference that cut Jobs’ Hawaiian vacation short. And now, today, they have delayed the White iPhone until “later this year”. Apparently Apple is an unstoppable machine though. Even when they aren’t running smoothly, it doesn’t seem to slow down sales at all. Actually it just helps them set new records!

Skype kills plans to charge for 3G calling next year

Skype released their updated iOS 4 app today, but the even better news is they no longer plan to charge for 3G calling next year as they previously stated.

Peter Parkes:

At Skype, we believe that better call quality and better availability (which is achieved with an app capable of multitasking and/or making calls over 3G) lead to increased call frequency and longer calls. We also believe that the mobile world is in a period of significant change, for example, with some operators starting to move to tiered pricing models.

In light of that, we no longer have plans to charge a supplement to make calls over 3G. We’re delighted to make it easier for you to talk for even longer and do even more together using Skype.
