When Will Apple is flash free unless you’re on IE

The iPad has inspired us at When Will Apple to finally get rid of the flash charts. Hooray, you can finally view our awesome polls on your iPhone, iPod touch, and brand new iPad. This was a lot of work so I hope you enjoy it!

Getting rid of flash wasn’t a new idea. I’ve looked around over the last year for a charting solution that could provide us all the great features built into Open Flash Chart, but couldn’t come up with anything. A couple days ago I had another go of it and after going through 3 other solutions I stumbled upon the answer.  Highcharts has everything we need to keep the same functionality of our flash based charts and them some. Highcharts is still under active development which is another plus over a lot of the other solutions out there.

So what’s different you ask? First thing you’ll see is the clean new look; a combination of the new charting tool and our tinkering.  Second, you’ll notice you can still zoom in as before, but we’ve removed the zoom out button. Now to zoom out, you just click anywhere on the chart. Besides the fact that it’s no longer using flash, those are the only two changes.

If you are using Internet Explorer for whatever reason stop and download Chrome! If you can’t help yourself well then you are stuck with the same old charts. Technically Highcharts does support IE so we’ll continue to look for a solution when we have time, but for now…to bad so sad.

If you run into any trouble viewing the charts please send us an email to info@whenwillapple.com with the poll, device (computer, iPhone, iPad), and browser you encountered the issue with.
