Pre’s battery the big let down…Apple smart for delaying background apps on iPhone?

Quickly check out the leak of David Pogue’s Pre review on  Edible Apple and the epic Pre review on pre|central:

pre|central:

Pros

Web Browsing is fast and fluid
Hardware is organic and small
webOS’s Synergy, notifications area, Card View and gestures are ALL breakthroughs in Smartphone software design.

Cons

Battery life. It’s an achilles heel.
Speed. Some tasks (especially email) just involve too much waiting

David Pogue:

So do the Pre’s perks (beautiful hardware and software, compact size, keyboard, swappable battery, flash, multitasking, calendar consolidation) outweigh its weak spots (battery life, slow program opening, ringer volume, Sprint network)? Oh, yes indeedy.

So here is one review from a well respected “tech guy” and a very detailed review from the new pre|central website…both claiming the phone is good, but the battery is not. So this should give some of those iPhone battery complainers something to think about. Yes, of course I wish the iPhone battery lasted longer, but don’t think there is another phone out there right now that can do better. If the 3rd gen iPhone can support background apps and deliver the battery life the Pre can’t, it will truly be the “Pre Killer”. I’m not holding my breathe on iPhone background apps, but there is a small chance the 3rd gen might get them.
