iPhone 3g included USB cable starting to tear apart

by Justin Horn on Oct 26th, 2008 @ 7:08 pm

UPDATE They replaced the cable for me!

I just noticed that the USB cable that was included with my iPhone 3g is starting to tear apart. My friend is having the same exact issue which you can see in the picture to the right. Both of the cables have the tear in the same exact place. I guess since this cable was made along with the recalled plug, there might be an overall quality issue. Because the risk of electrical shock is probably not an issue with the cable I doubt we will see this recalled. (continue reading…)

iPhone 2.2 beta 2 released, adds walking / public transportation directions

by Justin Horn on Oct 25th, 2008 @ 5:54 pm

Well there was rumors it was out and then yanked, but it’s now out for sure. One of the big things I was hoping for in the last 2.1 firmware release was google walking and public transit directions. When I first saw google maps had added these features on the computer (see my orignal post) I speculated that this would be a great feature to see in the 2.1 update. I guess it was a good idea, but was just a bit too new to make it into the 2.1 update because AppleInsider is reporting that the new release will have walking and public trans directions! There is also confirmation of the google street view which I agree is pretty cool, but not as useful as the walking / trans directions.

iPhoneYap.com has posted several images of the new google maps for iPhone 2.2. Here are a few to check out after the break. (continue reading…)

a stroll down ipod memory lane…

by Chiyin on Oct 25th, 2008 @ 5:09 pm

There are countless articles and blog posts about the iPod and its evolution… But that still doesn’t make it any less impressive… It’s just incredible how it has evolved over such a short period, from a physical scroll wheel to a multitouch screen… Obviously, Apple did not invent all the technology that went into the changes over the years… But it is fair to say that the iPod is a testament of Apple’s strive to utilize such technology to bring innovation and push the industry forward… So now lets take a walk down memory lane… (continue reading…)

Andrew McMahon was impressed by the iPhone speaker

by Justin Horn on Oct 24th, 2008 @ 12:16 am

I know this is an apple blog site, but trust me this is still kind of on topic…and hey it’s a blog site, not a news site right?

Well about a week ago (last saturday the 18th) I went to see a Jack’s Mannequin in Delray Beach. Before the concert I went to get a preconcert snack/meal. Well a few minutes before getting the check guess who decided to sit down at the table next to mine???  Andrew McMahon and Bobby “Raw” Anderson of Jack’s Mannequin.

Well being too cool for school I didn’t want to just be like OMG OMG OMG…so I came up with a plan! I took out my iPhone and opened up the iPod app. I then drilled down to the latest Jack’s album The Glass Passenger (you should click the link & buy the album on iTunes) and selected Swim to play. After a minute it got their attention and was able to strike up a conversation. We talked about a concert in Philly, etc etc.

Ok, here is where it ties back to apple…Andrew asked me where the music was coming from. I told him it was my iPhone 3g and he was like, that’s pretty loud! So… Yeah, that was it for the apple connection, but hey at least I got to mention my iPhone right?

I also met another band at the concert called Treaty of Paris. These guys were really cool and hung out with us regular people after they finished their set.  If you like good music like me you should totally check them out (yeah, another iTunes link, but it’s an apple website so???). As of now Treaty of Paris is not an iPhone band and Phill has a blackberry (ewwwwwh!!!). Hopefully soon when they are making the big bucks they will opt for the iPhone :)

Anyway here is a pic with Andrew and Bobby!

ymail texting, wish the iPhone looked more like this

by Justin Horn on Oct 23rd, 2008 @ 1:47 pm

Well I noticed today that ymail (yahoo mail) now lets you send text from your account. The display looks similar to the iPhone text with the bubbles. One thing I like more about ymail is that it groups bubbles together if there are none sent in between. Also it has timestamps on individual messages which I think is great. Ok, enough talk, here’s what it looks like…

apple hitting hard, another new mac vs pc ad

by Justin Horn on Oct 23rd, 2008 @ 1:22 am

Latest Ad “Bake Sale”

Even before I owned or even liked apple products I always had a lot of respect for their branding / advertising throughout all outlets (TV, Print, Online, etc.). Microsoft seems to be trying so hard and coming up empty while Apple keeps on doing the same old ad (yes, they are still pretty funny) and is crushing MS.

Continue reading to revisit the new ads that debuted last week. (continue reading…)
