att offers free wifi access to iPhone users
by Chiyin on Oct 30th, 2008 @ 10:56 amIf you are an iPhone user in the US, you probably received a text message yesterday informing that attwifi is available for free to all iPhone users at thousands of locations. There were rumors about this a few months ago just before the launch of the new phone. Back then the reason for giving free wifi access was to take a load off the EDGE network, which is probably why the rumor didn’t come true, people migrated to new phone and took off the load that the wifi was supposed to take care of. However it seems that now the 3G network might be going through a similar situation. Could this be att way’s of handling too many people using their 3G network? It’s also interesting they are doing this now when they are about to launch the new Blackberry Bold… Thoughts anyone?
Here is a screenshot of the text message…

I don’t think att is nice and agree with you that this is to take some of the load off the 3g network and it will probably work. I mean if you can get a faster connection on your iPhone, for free, who wouldn’t use it when having a nice pumpkin spice latte at starbucks?
