apple stock crushed over 15%

by Justin Horn on Sep 30th, 2008 @ 12:34 am

I’d like to say we don’t normally talk about apple stock (or aapl) on this blog, but we are still pretty new and nothing really interesting stock related has come up so…I guess we do talk about apple stock so please make a note of that :)

I think I have to say after following the stock market for 10 years now I still have no idea how it works. An investment in apple which is a company doing well in a slow economy, with no debt, and a bright future can vaporize within a months time because two people from investment banks say they are going to make a few less dollars. The funny thing is the whole economic crisis now is largely due in part to these banks!

I guess after 10 years I learned something today…your chances in the stock market as an average Joe are about the same as playing black jack in vegas. Although I’ve never been to vegas, it looks like a lot more fun than standing on wall street outside the NYSE. So if you have some cash sitting around and you aren’t sure wether to invest or sit on the sidelines, i propose option C…take a weekend trip to vegas!

is this the new macbook pro?

by Chiyin on Sep 26th, 2008 @ 1:39 pm

More rumors of the MacBook and MacBook Pro refresh are surfacing as we get close to October… There’s even a picture a French blogger posted and for some reason took down… Luckily someone over at Valleywag was able to get the picture before it was taken down…

Take a closer look and you’ll notice the screen missing the Dock, now direct your eyes to the trackpad… I can’t wait to see if this is the real deal…

iPhone 2.2 beta firmware in the hands of developers

by Justin Horn on Sep 25th, 2008 @ 2:18 pm

Macrumors is reporting that the next update to the iPhone firmware, version 2.2, is currently being seeded to some developers. The version is labeled as “iPhone OS 2.2 beta 1″. Here’s to hoping this update isn’t too far off and incorporates the push service that was promised for September of 2008. The Macrumors article also has an email supposedly from Steve saying they are running a bit late with the push notification update and want to make sure they get it right the first time. Although I really want to see this new service, I would rather have them get it right then try to please shareholders.

I have created a new When Will Apple? poll for your chance to win a $50 apple store gift card!

when will iPhone 2.2 firmware be released?

more rumors to confirm macbook refresh in a few weeks

by Justin Horn on Sep 24th, 2008 @ 3:33 pm

UPDATE: The event is confirmed for the 14th, check out my predictions here

Macrumors is reporting that Future Shop (a canadian subsidiary of best buy) has some new place holders in their inventory system for new apple products. The macrumors forums seem to be guessing and/or hoping that these are for the rumored October 14th macbook refresh. I guess you can add me to that list thats hoping we’ll see the new macbooks in a few short weeks!

Today T-Mobile is releasing the first Android device… The highly anticipated phone running on Google’s mobile OS that is to go head to head with the iPhone… The folks over at Engadget are at the event and they already have checked out a demo phone, pictures here… As the event progresses we will have more information about the device and services… Right now this is what we know about the G1

  • 3G support (of course)
  • GPS
  • 3.1 megapixel camera
  • Support up to 8 GB of memory
  • Requires Gmail account to sign in and use… hmmm
  • and most intersting of all… Apparently T-Mobile will not sell the phone outside of a 2.5 miles radius of their 3G network coverage area

Stay tuned for more updates…

Update:

  • Music store is similar to iTunes but links back to Amazon.com
  • Gmaps features Street View with Compass mode where the scene changes as you move… Very nice

  • 2 data/messaging plans… $25 for unlimited data and some text or $35 for unlimited data and text
  • Device will be available in the UK this November and 2009 for the rest of Europe
