iPhone 3g USB vs outlet charging…take two
by Justin Horn on Aug 5th, 2008 @ 3:47 pmUPDATE Charge test for iPhone 4
Well as promised from the previous post on USB vs outlet here are the real world results of iPhone 3g USB vs outlet charging.
Test Notes:
- iPhone on and in 3g mode
- iPhone not being used for any data usage or phone calls during charge
- iPhone periodically checked for charge by pressing the home button
- iPhone charged from completely dead battery
As you can see the the USB took quite a bit longer to get going, but after about 45 mintues the USB caught up to the outlet charge. This held for another 15 minutes, but after that the USB charge started to slow down again. The outlet charge went on to finish at the 90 minute mark. The USB continued charging slowly until it was fully charged at the 140 minute mark.
Also, I would like to note that the phone did not turn on until after being plugged into the USB for 5 mins. When plugging into the outlet it takes about 45 seconds before it powers back on.
