snow leopard to be shown at macworld 2009?

by Justin Horn on Dec 18th, 2008 @ 2:41 pm

The Guardian is hinting that Apple’s senior vice president Phil Schiller is going to present Snow Leopard at Macworld 2009.

Apple and its partners have been privately dropping hints to developers that its upcoming release of its Mac OS X operating system, dubbed Snow Leopard, will ship earlier than expected – and it will debut two new technologies that promise to speed up software without demanding any changes to the hardware.

The first technology, Grand Central, is designed to make better use of the Intel processors that sit inside the current range of Macs. The other, OpenCL, could have a more dramatic effect on performance for some programs as it will tap into the power of graphics processors (GPUs) that now goes to waste.

So these latest rumors say it is shipping ahead of schedule, but since there was never really a public schedule I don’t get it. The only thing we’ve heard thus far is that it would be shipping in the 1st quarter of 2009, which seems very likely to hold true. If they are truly “ahead of schedule” then I would assume a late January / early February release. If not then probably won’t happen until March.

Let us know when you think it will be coming out by voting in our in our Snow Leopard Release Poll. Registered voters are also eligible to win a copy of Snow Leopard when released!

indecision 2008 live special, everyone has a macbook!

by Justin Horn on Nov 4th, 2008 @ 10:26 pm

In Comedy Central’s Indecision 2008 live special it seems that everyone has a macbook. Looks like Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert are rocking the Air and the rest of the staff sporting the new macbooks. Wonder how much apple paid for this product placement?

Also, Steven Colbert had his macbook pimped with a giant C around the apple logo.

Here’s a clip

my macbook 2008 refresh predictions

by Justin Horn on Oct 13th, 2008 @ 12:45 am

Well rounding up all the rumors and “news” in my head here is my best guess as to what we will see at Apple’s event tomorrow, October 14th. These are just my gut feelings based on the same rumors that everyone knows, but I have a blog and figured why not let everyone know what I’m thinking…so here it goes.

Also, this is your last chance to vote in the macbook refresh release poll for a chance to win a $50 apple store gift card!

UPDATE @ 11:00PM EST:
There are some last minute rumors [via Macrumors] coming out with a price list from apple. No one knows for sure if it’s true, but the numbers do seem reasonable and in line with earlier speculations.

Macrumors Breakdown of rumors:
- K29, MB382LL/A $899.00 – MacBook?
- M97, MB466LL/A $1,299.00 – MacBook
- M97, MB467LL/A $1,599.00 – MacBook
- M96, MB543LL/A $1,799.00 – MacBook Air
- M96, MB940LL/A $2,499.00 – MacBook Air
- M98, MB470LL/A $1,999.00 – 15″ MacBook Pro
- M98, MB471LL/A $2,499.00 – 15″ MacBook Pro
- M88, MB766LL/A $2,799.00 – 17″ MacBook Pro

So these numbers seem in line with my idea that they would lower the cost on the base unit and let users configure upgrades to give you something similar to the current $1099 model, but filling in that all important sub $1000 model gap.

UPDATE @ 12:30AM EST:
Latest rumors suggest the $899 model is actual a LED display
