My video storage space estimate was dead on

by Justin Horn on Jun 19th, 2009 @ 7:45 am

Just took a small video and came out to 0.48MB/s just a bit more than my 0.45MB/s estimate.

Update: Apple has VIP line for preorders

by Justin Horn on Jun 19th, 2009 @ 5:30 am

Even though the Apple Store is open to all, they have split the line into a regular line and a VIP line. Not sure what difference it makes yet.

UPDATE Looks like the preorder line gets priority and walk ups have to wait until the preorders are done.

at&t allows some iPhone 3G customers to upgrade early at full discount

by Justin Horn on Jun 17th, 2009 @ 2:05 pm

With all the negative (unwarranted) feedback at&t has been getting from customers, they have responded in a very positive way!  At&t just posted “an update for our customers” which explains the upgrade process for iPhone 3G oweners and the new policy:

We’re now pleased to offer our iPhone 3G customers who are upgrade eligible in July, August or September 2009 our best upgrade pricing, beginning Thursday, June 18.

This won’t help the average 3G owner even if they bought the phone on July 11th last year since the average user’s monthly bill makes them upgrade elgible in December 2009 (read more about monthly bill and upgrade eligibility).  For those of you, like me, that have a bill of $100 or more you should have an eligble date 12 months from purchase which means if you purhased by September of 2009 you can upgrade to the iPhone 3G S on June 19th for the full discount!

Thanks at&t!

by Chiyin on Jun 16th, 2009 @ 10:24 am

Today at&t, Verizon and Cricket will testify at a U.S. Senante committee hearing on why it cost so much to send a text message. I would like to sit in and hear what they have to say…

Link to an article about the hearing.

Tap Tap updates to 3.0 with push, but no sound?

by Justin Horn on Jun 15th, 2009 @ 1:43 am

So far the two beta push apps I’ve tested, Associated Press and AIM Beta, have given the options for push Sounds, Alerts, and Badges.

Tap tap revenge 2 has just released their update for 3.0 with push, but doesn’t give you the sound option.

So it looks like Apple is giving the developers a choice of the push options they want to offer their users…or maybe they just they just didn’t include the sound file for the “push sound”. Both push apps I’ve tested so far have had special sound notifications that are not controllable via setting or the app itself. For an app that has been around as long as tap tap, I would assume it was their choice.
