this is a chat dizzy had with an att sales rep. can anyone make sense out of this? read the transcript after the jump

Sharie: Welcome to AT&T online Sales support. How may I assist you with placing your order today?
dizzy: how much are the data plans going to be for the new iphone 3g? I heard ATT was going to up the price
Sharie: The iPhone 3G is scheduled for a mid July launch and with a two year agreement it will retail for $199 for 8GB and 299 for the 8GB model. Unlimited 3G data will be available for $30 a month.
dizzy: per line or per account?
dizzy: It’s $20 / month for the current iphone so its going up by $10 right?
Sharie: Yes, that is correct, this is for each phone.
dizzy: how much would it be for a family plan with 2 phones on the 550 min plan?
dizzy: 60 + 10 + 30×2?
Sharie: It would be $100.00 for both phones then your current rate plan price.
dizzy: $100 for what?
Sharie: It would be $20.00 for each phone to convert to your current plan and the $30.00 for the unlimited 3G data on that phone, for each phone.
dizzy: convert?
dizzy: im not in a contract now
dizzy: so i would be doing a new 2 year
Sharie: Yes, you will have to get a plan from iTunes.com and convert to your current AT&T rate plan.
dizzy: so its a 40 activation fee?
dizzy: i already have cingular, i mean ATT so i dont understand why i have to convert anyhing
dizzy: i’ve heard of activation fees but i usually call in and complain and get that removed since i’ve been with att since it was att wireless
Sharie: Yes, I am sorry, but the iPhones plans do go through apple, and you will have to pick a plan from them, but you will be able to convert them to an AT&T rate plan if you already have them. And if you have a plan with AT&T the iPhone activation will be $36.00 for the first phone and $26.00 for the second phone.
dizzy: um, okay, i guess i’ll worry about it on July 11th, thanks for your help
dizzy: wait, one more thing
dizzy: so the 100 for data is per month?
dizzy: not a one time thing
Sharie: It will be $60.00 for each month after you have converted, that is the price added to your current rate plan, also that is the price for both phones.
Sharie: The $20.00 for each phone is to convert your iTunes plan to AT&T and that is a one time fee.
dizzy: so there is a 20×2 convert charge and 36 + 24 activation charge?
Sharie: Yes there will be a $20.00 convert charge on your first bill and as well as the activation charges.
dizzy: ouch, 100 bucks in worthless fees
dizzy: thanks for your help
dizzy: have a good night

    An activation fee for charging you 20 more a month? Wouldn’t it jsut be a matter of switching your chip, activate and shed the extra $30 a month? PLUS text messaging fees?

    BS!!!. When I changed from my blackberry to my iPhone they didn’t charge me a fee. I still have the same voice plan I had with my blackberry and I’m paying $20 for data.

    what is an iTunes plan.. I dont have that and they are not charging me for that.. The iPHONE price is now $199.99 but they are killing the people with services fee.. not cool

    Since the online chat customer sales team did not have any information fully for the iPhone 3G phones when they did come out…it was really hard for us to tell customers this information since we only have the web-site to look information up on, and since the iPhone 3G was not sold yet we were not able to view any information on that…..However, The iPhone 3G will have the $30 data fee per iPhone, added to the Rate plan that you did currently have Mr. Dizzy. Also, this data does not include Mesasging like the old iPhone used to have…So you will have separate charges for that. So… sorry for the inconvenience to what you were asking..but hope you know now that AT&T online sales reps…only view the phones that are shown online we are not able to view them in person, we cannot view stock since we are sitting in a damn room full of people taking chats and that is all…they are shipped from somewhere else that we don’t even know about. So before you say that we are idots check your shit bitch…get a damn iPod Touch and use WIFI on your computer to access the same damn thing it will be cheaper for you and use your current iPhone…fucker!
