Macrumors has posted possible images of the next gen iPhone:

Images claiming to depict the back cover of an upcoming iPhone have started circulating on the internet. iPodObserver first posted a version of the above photo that allegedly depicts an unreleased 16GB iPhone with the model number A1303. This new iPhone case is said to “shed its glossy appearance for a matte black look” and also introduce a new case-back made of metal. The site seems confident in the photo and reminded readers that they were also responsible for publishing an early back-case photo of the iPhone 3G.

So we have some good rumors starting to brew on the 3rd gen iPhone.  If you haven’t heard already we have put up our poll for the 3rd gen iPhone release and we are giving away a new 3rd gen iPhone to the winner!  So if you haven’t voted yet, head on over othe poll and place your vote now.

What the font? Handy app for designers

by Justin Horn on Feb 11th, 2009 @ 8:50 pm

whatthefont-step1WhatTheFont for iPhone is new free app (iTunes) that works similar Shazam. Instead of identifying a song by recording sound through the microphone, WhatTheFont identifies the song by using the iPhone camera.

Identify the fonts in a photo or web graphic!
Ever seen a great font in a magazine ad, poster, or on the web and wondered what font it is? Whip out your iPhone and snap a photo, and WhatTheFont for iPhone will identify that font in seconds!

I did a quick test with an Outback gift card I had sitting on my desk and it seems have nailed it! I would recommend this app even if it was a few bucks, especially if you are in the design field!

Verizon desperate to push the storm

by Justin Horn on Feb 9th, 2009 @ 9:47 pm

Just saw the latest commerical for the storm which invovled buying music directly on the phone from some music store that looked like crap compared to iTunes. That was amusing that they were pushing a feature that Apple excels in by far, but the funniest part was that now when you buy a storm you get any other blackberry for free! Soon they will have to start doing buy one get one free. :)

Google Mobile Sync iPhone launched, still no push email

by Justin Horn on Feb 9th, 2009 @ 2:59 pm

Google Mobile Sync for iPhone (and some other  phones as well, but who cares about those) is now live. From this important notice it looks like it just uses Exchange Activesync to keep your google calendar and contacts synced to your iPhone:

Important! Google Sync uses the Microsoft© Exchange ActiveSync© protocol. When setting up a new Exchange ActiveSync account on your iPhone, all existing Contacts and Calendar events will be removed from your phone. Please make sure to back up any important data before you set up Google Sync.

Seems weird to me that they didn’t include push email, but maybe they plan to keep that seperate and have a push email system setup like Yahoo! Mail. This is probably a better idea since there are a lot of people like me that have an exchange account setup already. You can only have one exchange account at a time so if push gmail were locked to this exchange system I would be left out of the gmail push party.

New snow leopard build released to devs

by Justin Horn on Feb 4th, 2009 @ 10:32 am

Macrumors is reporting (via Macitynet.it) that the latest update to snow leopard is now in developers hands:

According to Macity’s sources, the latest version does not appear to contain any noticable changes but does seem more stable (translated):

The interface has not been revised and currently there are only small changes in System Preferences, have been resolved a few bugs in the Finder and little else. According to the sources of Macity the impression is that this release is more reliable than those previously distributed.

So looks like Apple is preparing for a final release by just fixing bugs and not making any more big changes. So maybe the rumored March time frame will hold true? When do you think snow leopard will be out?  Place your vote now in the poll to the left.
