Hey, that’s me on the local news talking about my new iPhone 4S

by Justin Horn on Oct 14th, 2011 @ 3:12 pm

No, I’m not cut out for live TV, especially on 2 hours of sleep after getting to the Apple Store in Miami Beach at 4AM.

This article, on local South Florida news channel WSVN, contains the live interview.  They did a follow up (non-live) interview after which was edited in a video played later on the news at noon. In this video I got to show off Siri. Couldn’t find it online, so I’ve include a YouTube video of it below.  It’s much better than the live one, that’s for sure!

And finally I showed my new iPhone 4S to Chuck Fadely from the Miami Herald

One thing I do right on this blog, iPhone 4S 1080p video storage predictions [Confirmed]

by Justin Horn on Oct 12th, 2011 @ 3:15 am

I recently predicted the iPhone 4S 1080p video storage “requirements”.

Turns out (surprise!!!) I was right.

Jim Dalrymple from The Loop responded to my Tweet asking about real world 4S video size (he’s famous enough to get a review unit…but not too famous to talk to small time bloggers via Twitter):

Me@jdalrymple how close am I to the 1080p files size for the 4S? [Link to the above link ^]

Jim Dalrymple@justin_horn 4:33 of video is 814.2MB

Doing some math…give me a minute (or 178.9MB) here… comes out to…

178.95 MB/Min actual vs my estimate of 177.98 MB/Min.

I say…close enough.

iPhone 4S reviews, click here if your Google is broken

by Justin Horn on Oct 12th, 2011 @ 2:55 am

John Gruber…Daring Fireball: The iPhone 4S

This is the easiest product review I’ve ever written. The iPhone 4S is exactly what Apple says it is: just like the iPhone 4, but noticeably faster, with a significantly improved camera, and an impressive new voice-driven feature called Siri.

Jim Dalrymple…The Loop: Review: iPhone 4S

Much of the talk surrounding the introduction of the iPhone 4S is about Siri, Apple’s voice assistant technology.

After using Siri for a week, I can tell you it works just as good in real life situations as it did in Scott Forstall’s demo at the launch event.

Jason Snell…MacWorld: iPhone 4S review: It’s a sure thing

It’s a classic look, easily my favorite of all the iPhone designs to date. The fit and finish are immaculate; not a single thing about the iPhone 4S feels cheap. In terms of styling, the iPhone 4 feels like the most expensive electric razor ever made, or maybe like a finely-tuned luxury watch.

Facebook iPad app should, finally, be out today! (Updated)

by Justin Horn on Oct 10th, 2011 @ 4:08 pm

UPDATE From 9to5Mac here is an official page about the iPad app

UPDATE 2 Official blog post with announcement is live (via @atul)

UPDATE 3 It’s out, go get it!

The Verge (This Is My Next):

After lots of rumored drama and supposed delays, Facebook is finally (and we mean finally!) rolling out Facebook for iPad. And surprisingly, it looks almost identical to the version we saw leaked out back in July with a nice two-pane view and strong resemblance to the iPhone app.

Apparently it doesn’t contain the latest Timeline views, but it’s a start.

The Verge also reporting about some nice updates for the iPhone app:

But that’s not all that’s new today — Facebook is updating its iPhone app with bookmarks to apps, a new Requests dialog that will display app notifications, and support for Facebook Credits for in-app payments.

I still don’t see this live on the store, but be sure to follow us on Twitter and we’ll let you know when we do!

From the official Facebook page about the new app:

A New Way to Experience Facebook

Enjoy bigger, better photos

Your photos take on new life on the iPad. They’re big, high-res and easy to flip through—like a real photo album.

Focus on what matters

With less on the screen, it’s easier to zoom in on your friends’ photos, updates and stories.

Navigate anywhere, fast

Just tap, slide or pinch to get from one screen to another and back again in no time.

Never lose your place

Use simplified navigation to send a message, see your notifications or browse your bookmarks without switching screens.

Play games on the go

Play your favorite Facebook games wherever you are, and on a bigger screen.

Tap to send messages

A simple dropdown menu makes it easy to scan and send messages without visiting your inbox.
