iPhone 3g coming to a best buy near you!

by Justin Horn on Aug 12th, 2008 @ 11:11 pm

Reuters is reporting that starting September 7 best buy will be selling the iPhone 3g at all of its stores. The phone will sell in mostly out of the apple mini stores inside best buy, but also in stores which do not have the mini shops and at the newly opened best buy mobile stores. This looks like great news for best buy and apple. This should definitely help apple reach their lofty sales goals. This deal is also just in time for the upcoming back to school and holiday shopping season.

mac vs pc pricing: round 1 – desktops… fight!!!

by Chiyin on Aug 12th, 2008 @ 5:29 pm

When it comes to comparing Mac and PC computers one of the main arguments is pricing. A lot of people are under the assumption that Apple computers are much more expensive than their PC counterparts. But this hasn’t been true for some time now. Since switching to Intel chips, mac prices are closely matching similarly configured pc computers. Before purchasing my iMac last year, I was seriously considering a Dell XPS desktop, but after comparing prices and configurations I opted to go with the Mac. That was a year ago when Dell didn’t have an All-in-One machine, so I wasn’t really comparing apples to apples, no pun intended. Now with the addition of the XPS One lets see how they compare… (continue reading…)

by Justin Horn on Aug 11th, 2008 @ 6:27 pm

“Apple is likely to announce a redesigned iPod Touch and slimmer MacBooks at an event in September, analysts said on Monday.”

I wonder if this will be one of the announcements that come in september with products coming out the following month or if they will really be released in september.

app store refunds aren’t that easy

by Justin Horn on Aug 11th, 2008 @ 5:51 pm

Gizmodo has an article discussing the refund process for someone wanting to remove their NetShare app in fear of at&t hunting them down I guess. The article goes on to explain that once the money is transferred to the developers in about a week, the refund process is in the hands of the developer. I don’t quite follow this since everything is billed through apple. Also, with the 70/30 split how could you expect to get a full refund directly from the developer? With all the talk recently about apple’s ability to “zap” apps…I wonder what their refund policy will be for that?

iPhone backup slower since 2.0.1 firmware

by Justin Horn on Aug 11th, 2008 @ 2:43 pm

I know I read a lot of people talking about how their backups were slow on the 2.0.0 firmware, but mine wasn’t bad. At most it would take 10 mins, but usually it took about one minute. Ever since I updated to 2.0.1 the backups have taken as long as 30-60 mins! I know I have more text and other things that must be backed up since when I first got the phone, but I don’t see how it could have that much of an impact. Actually my phone worked best before the iTunes 7.7.1 update and this 2.0.1 iPhone update. This is running on an intel PC runing Vista 64, but it worked fine before these updates I’m hoping the 2.1firmware update will resolve these issues for me.
