The Oatmeal on Obama’s meeting with Jobs, Schmidt, and Zuckerberg

by Justin Horn on Feb 17th, 2011 @ 9:15 pm

The Oatmeal nails it! What’s interesting, it didn’t even occur to me that Microsoft wasn’t represented until reading this.  I guess my brain is already discounting them as innovators and views them more as keeping the status quo.

Steve Jobs health takes a turn for the worse?

by Justin Horn on Feb 16th, 2011 @ 6:12 pm

RadarOnline:

Has confirmed Jobs, 55, has been attending the Stanford Cancer Center in Palo Alto, California, where Swayze sought radical chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer before his death in September, 2009.

The skeletal-looking Apple boss was photographed outside the clinic in images set to be published in the next edition of The National Enquirer.

NY Magazine adds:

But the National Enquirer, who broke the news, talked to critical-care physician Dr. Samuel Jacobson, who said, “Judging from the photos, he is close to terminal. I would say he has six weeks.” We sincerely hope he’s wrong and wish Jobs all the best.

Steve Jobs did go on medical leave again in January, so that does lend some truth to these reports. If true, hopefully he can pull through this next round and Dr. Samuel Jacobson is incorrect in his assessment.

Apple working on a better notification system for iOS 5?

by Justin Horn on Feb 11th, 2011 @ 11:59 am

Cult of Mac:

Apple is working on a new notification system for iOS and will be buying a small company to build its technology into the operating system, according to one of our sources.

Our source, who asked to remain anonymous, didn’t know the identity of the company, except it already has an iPhone app in the App Store.

Not sure how good their source is, but with copy/paste and multitasking out of the way, it does make sense that notifications are now at the top of Apple’s to do list.

For me, notifications are my single (only?) biggest issue with iOS. When I see others with their Android devices, I laugh, but I’ve always been jealous of those WebOS notifications. As this is a major overhaul to iOS, like copy/paste and multitasking, we won’t hear anything from Apple about this until iOS 5 is announced at a special event in March / April or WWDC in June.
