amazon has best year ever

CNN Money is reporting that Amazon has had its best year ever. Apple does very well on Amazon and currently has 5 of the top 25 best sellers in electronics
From the CNN report:
Amazon said Samsung Electronics Inc.’s (005930.SE) 52-inch LCD High-Definition television and Apple Inc.’s (AAPL) 8-gigabyte iPod Touch led the gains in its electronics category.
Nice to see them pointing out Apple’s role in Amazon’s sales, but I think they meant to say 16GB iPod Touch which is currently at the #11 spot on the top 25 list. Also, I’m sure the classic black (#8 at time of this post) and 4th gen nano black (#10 as time of post) have helped as well
Another funny tidbit from the report:
Online retailers, like Amazon, may have benefited from poor weather in the two weeks before Christmas, which likely shifted sales volume to the Web-based shops, MasterCard said.
Although there may be some truth to that, I think it has more to do with it being 2008. More and more people are online and those same people are choosing to shop online. So more good news for Apple even with all these dumb reporters and analyst predicting doom and gloom.

New, like new, iMacs to arrive in January?

9to5mac is reporting that the iMac refresh we assumed that we would be getting in January is a going to be more than just a speed bump in the CPU/Video chips.
…according to the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) via Digitimes:
.. sources inside the component supply chain as saying that Apple plans to launch a new iMac all-in-one PC in the first quarter of next year, and the company’s sole manufacturing partner, Quanta Computer, is gearing up to supply monthly shipments of around 800,000 units during the first quarter of 2009. According to the paper, the new iMac will start shipping in January next year. Quanta declined to comment on client relationships, the paper added. In addition to Apple, Quanta is also manufacturing all-in-one PCs for Sony and NEC.
So this validates the previous rumors of a iMac refresh in January and then adds some icing on top.
When Will Apple Poll: when will new iMac refresh be released?

I think this is a video from students at the Art Institutes… Thought it was funny the PC had to “upgrade” from Vista to XP in order to fight the Mac…
Poor PC, all alone at an art institute…

iFart Mobile and Pull My Finger have now become the number 3 and 4 top paid apps (as of December 22, 2008). UPDATE iFart has now moved to #2 and Pull My Finger has dropped to #6.
Mobile Orchard is reporting:
As an aside: As a 99 cent app and after Apple’s 30% commission, this means iFart has raked in $13,205 for Infomedia over 9 days.
I’m now in the process of starting to learn how to develop iPhone apps and had grand ideas of making useful and well design apps, but with this latest news I’m reconsidering. These developers might not have create apps that will win awards, but I don’t think they mind when they are farting all the way to the bank!
UPDATE Macrumors has chimed in about how much money iFart Mobile is making:
12/14 - 841 units - #76 overall
12/15 - 1510 units - #39 overall
12/16 - 1797 units - #22 overall
12/17 - 2836 units - #15 overall
12/18 - 3086 units - #10 overall
12/19 - 3117 units - #9 overall
12/20 - 5497 units, - #4 overall
12/21 - 9760 units
12/22 - 13274 units, #1 overallAfter Apple’s 30% cut, that means the iFart Mobile has generated $9198 in one day.
Wow!
Best reason to jailbreak your iPhone

Yes, Apple has recently let some more mature and silly apps through, but they have now blocked what surely would have been a best selling app…iBoobs. Even with all the fart apps now flooding the iTunes shelves, I just don’t see them bending on this one. I now have a good reason to jailbreak my iPhone if/when iBoobs makes its way to the iPhone’s seedy underworld!
Apple’s rejection email:
“Applications must not contain any Obscene, pornographic, offensive or defamatory content or materials of any kind (text, graphics, images, photographs, etc.), or other content or materials that in Apple’s reasonable judgment may be found objectionable by iPhone or iPod touch users.”
