iPods, iTunes, iPhones… oh my!

Well there has been a lot of rumor this and rumor that going back and forth on what is going down the 9th of September. The latest round of rumors I just saw while browsing macrumors being reported by arstechnica are that in addition to new iPods, the most agreed upon part of the event, there will be a release of the new iTunes 8.0 and the new iPhone firmware 2.1. Oh, and we aren’t just talking about new 2.1 firmware, but more hidden features not previously discussed from the 2.1 betas that have been in developers hands the last few months.

Although I would like to believe these latest round of rumors, I just can’t. Apple has been putting too much on it’s plate lately. If they release new iPods and iTunes 8 at the same time that makes sense and I would believe that, but to throw in the new iPhone 2.1 firmware at the same time is a bit much. Now What I can see is possibly announcing when the new 2.1 firmware will be released at the event, but my gut tells me it won’t be released on the same day.

What do you think? Leave some comments with your thoughts on what’s going down at the event.  Also, if you haven’t already take your guess in our When Will Apple polls.  Polls are open to the public, but registered members will have the opportunity to win a prize if they guess the correct date.

one thing to keep in mind is that the new ipods will probably come loaded with the 2.1 firmware… so it makes sense for apple to release the new update for the rest of us… I agree it’s a bit much and unlike apple to release so many things at the same time, but in this case all the software/hardware are all related… just my opinion…

That is a good point that I didn’t consider. Although the firmware for the iPods share a lot of the same functions as the iPhones, they aren’t the same. So I could see them releasing iPods with 2.1 iPod firmware before releasing 2.1 firmware for iPhones. Another thing to think about is if this event is going to be like the iPhone announcement where they’ll just announce a release day instead of releasing it that day.
