more reports dismiss $99 4GB walmart iPhone rumors
by Justin Horn on Dec 8th, 2008 @ 11:01 amI dismissed the rumor of the $99 walmart iPhone when it was first reported by The Boy Genius and now some bigger names are stating the same.
MacBlogz is saying…
Based on every piece of information we’ve heard, and direct information inside AT&T, this is not happening. Our AT&T sources have been confirmed accurate in the past, so this new information is being reported with confidence. If this rumor does come true, then we will be just as surprised as everyone else. However, we are sticking with our colleagues on this one and endorsing the inaccuracy of these rumors.
MacRumors is saying…
The advertising shown only lists 8GB iPhones for sale at $197, without any hints of a cheaper model. The iPhone will go on sale at Wal-Mart beginning on December 28th.
So it does look more likely that walmart will be carrying the iPhone, but no special exclusive size or price. This makes a hell of a lot more sense than the rumors of the $99 4GB version. It never made sense to me why apple would go backwards with a 4GB iPhone and/or give an exclusive iPhone to any retailer…espeically walmart.
So at least if I’m wrong and hell does indeed freeze over, at least I won’t be alone in calling shenanigans on this one.
